Home

Twenty years can cause the whole world to change.
The longer you are away, it seems,
the more drastic it is, making it strange
to drive down old but alien streets
to see homes shuddered where you used to play,
to see new businesses where old ones stood,
And wonder if you never went away,
Could you have then saved the old neighborhood?
The streets are darker than they used to be,
and lights don't guarantee safety no more...
One old food joint changed their old recipe,
and another has boarded up its doors.
Then you see some people you used to know.
Try as you might, you can't recall their name...
You fake it, and try not to let it show,
though you can tell they are doing the same.
Do you look as old as they seem to be?
Are they thinking the same thing you are?
You say "Great to catch up!" and they agree
allowing you to get back to your car.
There, you wonder where the hell the years went...
You drive from a town now foreign to you,
with pangs of nostalgia that wont relent.
'You can't go back again' now rings so true.

Canada

Oh, Canada! Our future sister state!
Your liberation is now drawing near,
as we rescue you from your current fate,
you are still our kin, and we hold you dear.

Though your leaders have worked to drain you dry
to stuff their pockets with your hard earned cash,
funding imports while letting your folk die,
then acting victims when faced with backlash…

Oh, dear Canada, you have been betrayed,
you’ve become foreigners in your own land!
Now is the time! Vengeance cannot be stayed!
Let the flames of Revolution be fanned!

Together, we shall ascend to great heights
if you just cast off that corrupted yolk!
Re-manifest your destiny and rights,
Cast out your traitors, and join your kinfolk…

Sonnet on AI Art

They say that there is a war raging on,
between artists and AI advocates:
AI making poems, pictures, and songs,
Which sends the artists into hissy fits.

I must say I am partial to writers,
for I do try to be one when I can,
between weekend shifts and the all-nighters,
but I do not support an AI ban.

I feel all AI work should bear a brand
and human work so marked as human made,
and should an artist lie, they should be banned,
from their chosen path in the artist trade.

If digital artists stay in their lane,
not once will they ever hear me complain.
